EcoPiggy Pacifier

We recently received an EcoPiggy Pacifier for review from the Natural Pacifier Company. It was great! We have used the Neufsetten Natural Pacifier and now got to try the EcoPiggy. The first thing I noticed was that it in NOT bitter like the Neufsetten pacifier. I also preferred the end of the EcoPiggy as it was a U-shaped and easier to hold on to or attach to a pacifier clip rather than the pinched style of the other. It has the option of a rounded or orthopedic tip as well as different sizes for 0-6 months and 6+ months. The other difference I noticed that makes the EcoPiggy more desirable, in my opinion,  is the fact that it doesn’t get SUPER sticky and dark.  It also seems important that the guidelines of  6-8 weeks be followed for refreshing the pacifier, although a few weeks beyond that seems okay, but no more than that as they do get darker, sticky, and warn out.

All and all it is a relief to know that it is a natural material that little owl is sucking on several times a day. It is easy to keep track of, clean, and know that it is one solid piece so fuzzies, lint, dirt, and germs get caught in. Thank you EcoPiggy!

Bambino Land Swaddle Blankets and Yoga Outfit

Bambino Land is a great place to go for eco-friendly blankets and clothing for baby! Their swaddling blankets are amazing as they get softer each time you wash them! Little owl uses her ‘Peace and Love’ blanket as her lovey (we call it a “Binkit” after ‘Dinosaur’s Binkit’ by Sandra Boynton) and it has been a stroller cover to shield her from the sun, a picnic blanket for her and her dolls, a comfort, a snuggle buddy, and best friend. Had she had it since a newborn, it would have also been a swaddle. These blankets also swaddle incredibly well. I find the blankets with the smaller designs to be the best since the larger images covered more area and therefore felt a bit more rough than the buttery soft small (or no print) blankets were just after one washing. The print size does not affect the blanket when being used as a swaddle however because the print side is out and the softest part is touching your baby. That being said, if used as a “Binkit” then I would go with the smaller print or the simple colors for that purpose.

Being an eco-friendly home childcare owner it is extremely important that we have products that are eco-friendly, organic, and support a good cause. I did find the prices to be a tad on the higher side, but  they are using organic and eco-friendly materials as well as a percentage of their profits go to a home for abandoned children in Nepal to help them provide food, shelter, and good help for their care.

The best part of Bambino Land is Jessica, the owner and founder of the small business. I got the opportunity to speak with her regarding my order and she was BEYOND helpful and kind. Her service was outstanding and she was able to go above and beyond what I needed in order to provide my little owl with the back-up “binkit” she needed. I was able to speak with her using the website’s instant chat feature that connects you with someone immediately that you can chat with over the computer in the instant message box provided. I actually was able to speak with her late (about 11pm) using that very handy and convenient feature. In addition to different theme collections of blankets, once in awhile they offer a special where you can build your own lovie/swaddle collection by mixing and matching the soft Muslin blankets of your choosing to coordinate your and your little one’s personality.

I was also able to review the ‘Peace, Love, and Owls’ yoga outfit for little owl. She loved it! It washed up so very soft and fit her very comfortably. She was able to explore her space, unrestricted, in her comfy Yoga pants. they fit with wide-leg style bottle and a top that has double snaps above one shoulder to ease on and off and to accommodate a child with a larger sized head. My favorite part, by far, was the pants. I wanted a pair in my size. She looked so comfortable and they fit her length perfectly yet they had a lot of space to grow.

Overall I was very please with my experience with Bambino land with their promises of blankets getting softer as they wash and excellent customer service. I will proudly continue to support their mission of bring environmentally friendly materials to children while helping those in need in other countries as well.

The Paci Pixie

“I WANNNNT MY….binky, bobo, bebee, poppy, cici, fire, nuk, noo-noo, button, mute, plug, nini, shooshifier, shoo-shoo!!”

Is this something you hear often? Are you a mama to a pacifier addict? Are you looking for ways to get rid of it? We recently received the Paci Pixie books in the mail and were eager to try them. Both Little Ladybug (3 y/o) and Little Owl ( 1 y/o) use pacifiers, as do two kiddos in our childcare. The Paci Pixie book also comes with a CD including both a song and a narrative of the story. We listened to the CD first and loved the song, very cute and catchy! In just flipping though the book, we noticed it was full of captivating colors and illustrations. Both mamas and kiddos sat down to read the book together. Its storyline was interesting and a great idea and Little Ladybug did understand that her pacifier would one day go to babies in need. However, we both agreed that this book cannot be used as a stand alone pacifier removal system. Since the Paci Pixie comes in the middle of the night and just takes the pacifier, we agreed that it might be unsettling if read over and over again before bed if the child is unsure of when the big day to take the pacifier would be. If you are setting a date and reading the book to prep then it is a great tool along with talking about what  and WHEN it will happen and maybe what rewards are to come when the pacifier is gone, it wouldn’t be as nerve-wracking for the children (and parents who are reading it about how their children will react).

The story has a nice lyrical rhythm and sweet overall mood that sets the children up and prepares them for the difficult transition in their lives of learning to self-soothe without the use of a pacifier. Overall it is a nice tool in addition to strategies and planning for when that big day comes that the big girls and boys with endow their Pacis to little babies who need them.

So with that in mind we have two autographed copies of the book to giveaway! To enter leave a comment here with the craziest comment someone has given to you while you were pregnant or with your child. If you haven’t gotten any crazy
comments post something you have heard or make one up (but let us know you made it up). Also go to our Facebook page and ‘like it’ to be eligible for the giveaways and help you get updates on new posts and giveaways.

Peace Weighted Blankets

For those with various special needs things that come easy to some, like
sleep, are a near impossible task. As I mentioned in another post Little
Ladybug has struggled with sleep since day one and at almost three has only
slept through the night a handful of times. Her OT ( occupational therapist
) had recommended a weighted blanket. I searched what seemed like all
corners of the internet before coming across Kristi has been a joy to work with, her
communication through out the order and the speed of the process was great.
She offers lap pads, toddlers blankets and up. If you have ever looked for a
weighted blanket you know they are pricey but Kristi has good quality
blankets ( my mother is a quilted by trade so passing her test is good
enough for me! ) at reasonable prices. Since it’s just Little Ladybug and me
I need to keep us on a budget, and at $45 for a toddler blanket I was able
to do it compared to the $75 minimum I was finding at other places.

The first night Little Ladybug used her new blanket she said it felt like a
“hug from Mama”, I’m assuming she is referring the to deep pressure. I
normally hear Tad’s song over and over through the monitor with some “Mama?
……Mama?!” here or there but only 2 rounds of Tad! I was scepital that it
would work just like that and chalked it up to a late night the night before
and not much of a nap. Since then sleep has improved, I can’t say she is
sleeping through the night but that would a miracle fix. She is waking less
often and able to fall asleep easier when she does wake. I’m hopefully with
the combination of OT and blanket I will have a rested child.

Even used as a lap pad I find it helpful. Little Ladybug is a big cuddler
but just simply can’t sit still and is always fidgeting on my arms. I placed
the blanket over her lap and it helped her to fidget less. We just used it
for a long car ride that involved a nap on the road, a normal scream fest.
It was a dream, she went out in a flash! For those kiddie in daycare the lap
pad is a nice size to drape over them on nap cots, 12 x 20.

Overall I would recommend this blanket to anyone with sleep issues, young or
old, special needs or not.

Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Soothe & Glow Seahorse

Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Soothe & Glow Seahorse

The Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Soothe & Glow Seahorse is a huge hit here at the childcare! We have a little guy who has one at home and one here at childcare for nap time. He seems to love it so much that with Little Owl having such sleep issues, I wanted to try it out for her as well. It is a very sweet and soft seahorse with a glowing tummy. He plays soft classical music with ocean sound (bubbles and waves) in the background. There is a sound adjustment for soft and loud, but personally I think there could be an even lower setting. It really isn’t super loud, but I find that if it isn’t on before the going-to-bed-process then it tends to be a distraction/toy rather than a soothing sleep aid. Little owl doesn’t like to be in the dark and his tummy glows ever so slightly that it is enough to be a nightlight and snuggle friend, but not illuminate an entire room or hurt little sleepy eyes. I also find it helpful sometimes to turn it on and lure her back to sleep while doing to middle of the night pacifier hunt.

‘Seabiscuit’ as Daddy Owl so lovingly deemed him, is a soft nighttime friend that I almost wish they had for adults. It brings back nostalgic memories of my glowbug I used to have when I was a little Owlet. Fisher-Price does also make a newer glowbug, but its music doesn’t seem as pleasant from my in store experiences as ‘Seabuscuit’.

Cloud B Twilight Constellation Night Light, Sea Turtle

Cloud B Twilight Constellation Sea Turtle

The Cloud B Twilight Constellation Night Light Sea Turtle is a wonderful addition to any child’s room. It provides visual sensory stimulation and also allows a child who may fear the dark to drift off to sleep while looking at the stars and constellations. Little Owl and I nurse while using the stars as our nightlight before bed.  It is so peaceful knowing she doesn’t have to fall asleep in the dark or if she stirs shortly after, go from being in my arms all snuggled to a dark room. The Sea Turtle has 3 choices of colors: Blue, Green, or Blue and Green together. You can also illuminate pictures of 5 individual endangered sea creatures on the  circumference of the Sea Turtle’s shell. This is nice because it helps children learn about endangered creatures paired with a nice story book and adoption certificate. There is an automatic timer that shuts off after about 45 minutes. The only downfall is that you cannot keep it on all night, so it cannot be used successfully as an all night nightlight. Sometimes Little Owl wakes up in the dark and gets scared; that would have to be my only con to the Cloud B Twilight Sea Turtle. He has a soft plush body and a hard plastic shell, so he isn’t ideal for snuggling, more the type of guy who likes to hang out on a shelf, dresser, or nightstand.

As far as the constellations go, there is a guide for identifying them, but I have a bit of trouble. I thought I saw the Dippers, but that is all I could see. There is also a nice crescent moon among the stars as well. Overall the Cloud B Twilight Constellation Night Light Sea Turtle is very nice, peaceful, and comforting.

Leapfrog Baby Tad and Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Puppy

Little Ladybug got this for her first Christmas and it’s still going strong. At the time she was 10 months old and used both the daytime learning mode and the night music mode, now that she ISA pushing 3 we only use the night mode. Basically Tad’s daytime mode is learning fun, body parts, songs ect. He has sensors in his feet, hands and belly that will rotate phrases or songs. The buttons are large enough that the child can find and push them by themselves but no so sensitive that they are going off on their own. Nighttime mode has 5 or 10 minutes of lullaby music with a soft light glowing from the sun on Tad’s chest. I was pleasantly suprised at how long the batteries last too, considering Tad is used nightly in our house (sometimes more than once, and always on for the 10 minute cycle) I have only had to change the batteries maybe 4 times in the time we have had him.
Little Ladybug was also given the Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Puppy at the same time. While it’s a good toy I like the double purpose of Tad. The puppy definitely had more words, phrases, and songs. He has sensors in his ear, nose, belly, hands and feet. However after carrying his around by his floppy ears, as most toddlers carry stuffed animals, the wire in his ear broke. If you are looking for just a daytime, body parts teaching toy then the puppy may be for you, but for us the double use of Tad fit the bill.
